The ultra-lightweight Evolution Line exhaust system for the S 63 AMG Coupé is made entirely from the highest quality titanium and manufactured in the company’s in-house titanium foundry. For the first time, the revolutionary new system features an active X-pipe that allows exhaust gases from both sides of the engine to mix. The system has been designed for durability and performance, using special titanium alloys that are 47% lighter than steel and 45% lighter than the stock system. The Evolution Line features a unique sound profile, unlocking the full potential of the engine’s firing order. By utilising the vehicle’s own electronics and the Akrapovič Sound Kit, different sound characteristics can be accessed via the control of the active X-pipe – this simultaneously ensures controlled and highly precise control of the exhaust valves, enabling the variation of sound colours. With the exhaust valves open, the sound is fuller, more continuous, and resonant; when closed, the system produces the pure and powerful roar reminiscent of a muscle car. With an impressive increase in the power and torque curve across the entire rev band, a further performance upgrade of the V8 biturbo engine can be achieved through the system. For the new and innovative Evolution Line system, a special technique for the seamless connection of titanium and carbon parts has also been used for the first time, to give the system’s tailpipes a continuous surface finish and highlight it in its entirety. Care must be taken to order the corresponding link pipe for the Slip-On system – UAKE-ME/T/2 (see accessories).
